Ship Owners and Agents Association of Ghana marks 30th Anniversary

The Ship Owners and Agents Association of Ghana (SOAAG) has celebrated its 30 years of existence with a promise to continue to be the mouthpiece of shipping lines operating in Ghana. The theme for the celebration was “Celebrating 30 Years of Collaboration: The SOAAG Story”.

Madam Perpetual Osei-Bonsu, the Executive Secretary of SOAAG, said in an address that her outfit would continue to play its pivotal role in providing a unified voice for its members.

She said SOAAG, which came into existence in April 1993, currently had 17 vibrant companies that operated in the shipping industry.

Shipping stakeholders pledge to enhance cooperation at SOAAG's annual cocktail event

The Ship Owners and Agents Association of Ghana (SOAAG), has held its annual cocktail event with a call on all stakeholders in the port and shipping industry to resort to dialogue as they seek ways of resolving challenges confronting the industry.

The annual cocktail event is aimed at bringing players in the port and shipping industry together for networking and discussion of pertinent issues pertaining to the industry.

The interactive and informal gathering was attended by country executives of vessels calling the country's ports and representatives from the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, Meridian Port Services, Ghana Shippers' Authority, the Shippers Council of the Salielian countries, the Association of the Customs House Agents Ghana, the Member of Parliament for Tema Central, Hon. Yvess Nortey and a Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry, Herbert Krapah.

Leadership change at Intermadal Shipping

Mrs Romziyath Fagbemi has taken over the helm of affairs at Intermadal Shipping (ISAG) on the relocation of Mr . Rhett Van Zyl who has completed his term of office as Managing Director.

Maersk Ghana Appoints New Managing Director

On completion of his duty tour, Mr. Kevin Butler has bid farewell as he takes up a new appointment. Mr. Razak Ngula has been appointed as the new Managing Director to take- over from him.

SOAAG ELECTS NEW OFFICERS

At the end of the AGM of 2017, new executive members were elected into office to run the affairs of the Association as follows;

SOAAG Holds Cocktail Get-Together for Stakeholders in the Maritime Industry

The Ship Owners and Agents Association of Ghana,(SOAAG) has organized a cocktail get-together for stakeholders in the maritime industry.

In attendance was the Minister of Transport,Hon. Kweku Ofori Asiamah,and the Members of Parliament for Tema West,Hon. Carlos Ahenkorah,Tema Central,Hon. Kofi Brako,Takoradi,Hon. Kwabena Okyere Darko and Sekondi,Hon. Joe Mercer, among others.

The Shipping lines were in full attendance as well as various stakeholders in the maritime industry such as GPHA, GIFF and GSA who were well represented at the function.

SOAAG pays courtesy call on the Tema Traditional Council

In line with the Association’s community outreach policy it was decided that a courtesy call was to be paid to the Tema Traditional Council.Subsequently the visit came on as planned and a three member delegation from the Secretariat represented the Association to pay the visit.

The delegation was warmly received by delegation of elders within the traditional council led by the paramount chief of Tema, Nii Adjei Kraku to a well- organized but brief ceremony.

Interaction with the Honourable Minister of Trade and Industry

A seven member delegation from SOAAG held very fruitful deliberations with the Honourable Minister of Trade & Industries. Members expressed their satisfaction for the opportunity to have the interaction with the Honourable Minister following his assumption of office which was in line with the tradition established over the years with his predecessors.

Meeting with Customs on Implementation of the Single Window Policy,Concept

Following the announcement of the introduction of the Single Window system a meeting was arranged with Customs to afford the members the opportunity of getting to know their responsibilities under the scheme.

Visit by Rep of the Association of Ports of Le Havre/ Rouen/ Paris (HAROPA)

Mr. Patrick Bret on behalf of HAROPA, paid a familiarization visit to the SOAAG secretariat to hold discussions with officials from the Association. This was in connection with the impending trade visit from HAROPA to engage stakeholders in the maritime industry slated for the latter part of the year.
